4 Steps for Artists and Labels to Prepare for the U.S. TikTok Ban

We understand how essential TikTok is as a marketing tool for your artists. To help you and your artists prepare for the looming U.S. TikTok app ban starting this Sunday, January 19, 2025, we’ve created a concise to-do list to safeguard your content and ensure you can continue utilizing the platform even after the ban takes effect. Our 4 steps to-do list is time-sensitive, so there’s no time to waste if you want to save your content and account.

Step 1: Back Up Your TikTok Profile

  • Download all TikTok videos (posts & drafts) to your computer and save it in the cloud.
  • Download all of your TikTok data to your computer and save it in the cloud.

Step 2: Reset Your Profile Settings

  • Disable two-factor authentication (2FA) before you delete the app from your phone. You can ask your international TikTok partner to re-install it.
  • Confirm and save all TikTok profile/business center login details, including the label management contact(s).
  • Update and save new information if needed (password, phone number, email, etc.) in a password management tool like 1Password or LastPass and share login details with the relevant team members via email ASAP.

Step 3: Select an International TikTok Manager

  • Identify and secure a trusted international partner to manage your TikTok account outside the U.S.
  • Grant shared access by providing login details using your password manager and start collaborating.

Step 4: Update your fans from your TikTok Account

  • Create a final TikTok post highlighting where your fans can find you on other platforms.
  • Schedule a last live session with your fans on TikTok.
  • Make sure the link in your bio highlights where your fans can find you on additional platforms.
  • Lastly, don’t forget to update whatever service you use that links to all of your accounts if you are not planning on re-opening your account with a foreign partner.
